Liam Adventure SessionLiam Adventure Session

When I first chatted with Liam to customize his session, I knew we would get a long great because his favorite type of music is Reggae! And when we started planning and he wanted to focus on his love for surfing-I knew we were going to have so much fun. We planned his session for the fall because the weather on the Oregon Coast is usually wonderful during the fall-and we were incredibly blessed with the 70 degrees and no wind! Which definitely helped when I had to go into the water up to my waist to capture some of the surfing images, lol!

Are you wanting unique senior photos? Images that are catered to you and your personality? Then what are you waiting for-let's chat!

My Complete Checklist for Your Senior Photography Experience https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2022/12/my-complete-checklist-for-your-senior-photography-experience My Complete Checklist for Your Senior Photography Experience
TatumTatum

Your senior photography session is an important milestone in your life, and it's important to be prepared to make the most of it. To help you plan for your senior photography experience, here is a complete checklist to help you nail your session:

  1. Choose a photographer

  2. Set a date and time

  3. Choose a location

  4. Plan your outfits

  5. Be prepared for weather

  6. Have a makeup and hair plan

  7. Bring props and accessories

  8. Relax and have fun

  1. Choose a photographer - This one might seem like a no-brainer, but doing your research and choosing a photographer who has experience and expertise in senior photography is super important. Each photographer will have their own style and you want to make sure that resonates with you! Are you ready to become a Lindsay Newton Photography Senior? Click HERE and let’s start planning!                                                                              senior girl photosJaden senior girl photosJaden senior girl photosJaden

  2. Set a date and time - Choose a date for your senior photography session that will allow you to have your dreams come true. The seasons and weather play a pretty big role in your photos! You can’t wait until the last minute (October and November) if you want flowers. The same can be said if you want the best fall colors, you will not want to book your session in early September. Not sure when is the best time of year for what you are dreaming of? No worries, just send me a message and let’s chat! And we will always pick a time of day that is best for lighting-but don’t worry, we will go over that on your Zoom call.  high school senior photosJulia & Sidney high school senior photosJulia & Sidney high school senior photosJulia & Sidney

  3. Choose a location - Choose a location for your senior photos that will provide a beautiful and interesting backdrop for your photos. Not totally sure where to have them taken? Check out these two blogs for inspiration: Top 9 Adventure Locations and Top 8 Locations near Salem, Oregon. Still not sure? No worries-I have a ton of locations that I have captured and will help you pick the one (or two) that is perfect for you!                                 high school senior photos at an oregon waterfallNicole high school senior photosLiam Adventure Session high school senior photos on the Oregon coastChenoa

  4. Plan your outfits - Choose outfits for your senior photography session that reflect your personal style and that will help capture all of the different pieces of your personality. On average, my seniors have 4-6 outfits. Pinterest is a great help in deciding what vibe you want for each outfit. Think of each one as a separate scene in a movie and what you want to portray in each one. Still stuck? No worries-we will go over outfits on your consultation call! senior photos in oregonMya senior photos in oregonMya senior photos in oregonMya

  5. Be prepared for weather - Depending on the time of year, your senior photography session could be affected by weather. We will work together on a backup plan and decide if we have to reschedule.                                                                                                                                  senior photosCole Senior Session senior photosCole Senior Session senior photosCole Senior Session

  6. Have a makeup and hair plan - Consider having your makeup and hair professionally done for your senior photography session to ensure that you look your best in your photos. Not sure if that is the route you want to go? You can absolutely do your own makeup and hair! I recommend a pretty natural face to make sure that you look like you! Your senior photos shouldn’t be the time to try out a new fad, lol!                                                        senior photosKelsey Senior Session senior photosKelsey Senior Session senior photosKelsey Senior Session

  7. Bring props and accessories - Bring props and accessories to your senior photography session to make your senior photos unique and help capture your personality. This could be sports equipment, musical instruments, vehicles, or other items that reflect your interests and passions. high school senior photosGinger Senior Session high school senior photosGinger Senior Session high school senior photosGinger Senior Session

  8. Relax and have fun - Your senior photography session is a fun and special experience, so relax and have fun. Because I use so much movement in my posing, it really doesn’t feel as awkward…promise! Make a playlist because I bring a speaker along and be prepared to laugh! I promise, it will be SO MUCH FUN!

15 Favorite Senior Images of 2022 | Oregon Senior Photographer https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2022/12/15-favorite-senior-images-of-2022-oregon-senior-photographer My Top 15 Senior Photos of 2022

Each year I pick my favorite images (not individual sessions) and wow, did I have a hard time choosing this year! With 26 senior sessions this year, that is a lot of images to choose from! In no particular order, here are my top 15 high school senior images of 2022. Are ready to book your senior session? Sweet, let's do this! Click HERE to inquire today!

1: Liam loves the beach and reggae music, which I thought was just the coolest thing ever! We planned his adventure session with fingers crossed for good weather in November. Fall is the best time to have photos at the beach, in my opinion. And we totally lucked out! His whole session was amazing, but when he went out to surf and the sun was setting-I knew it was going to be magic!

2:  Gracie's epic shot when we were on her consult call was "looking warm and cozy in my sweater, with the sun setting behind me." Welp, I think we nailed it! Gracies whole session was amazing-and we laughed so much! It was so fun watching her and her grandma interact, so much love!

3: Ginger, where do I even start?! Ginger LOVES plants, so we met at Green Space Design by Jude, which is Ginger's favorite plant store. There were so many amazing spots to capture Ginger, but when we were walking by these windows and I saw the rainbow from a prism, I knew we had to play with it! I just adored Gingers style and laugh!

4:  I originally went to choose a baseball image from Joey's session. It was so Americana...but as I was looking through his gallery I remembered this photo of him and his dog, Ruby. I mean, what are the odds of them both making the same face at each other?!

5: I think this one just exudes peace, confidence and captures that true Oregon beauty. Amelia embodies a quiet, yet powerful presence and I love how this shot reflects that. She was a natural in front of the camera and we had a blast adventuring all over the Oregon Garden.

6: Jordan's smile is truly contagious! We had so much fun and I loved capturing her doing her track thing. If I know one thing-watching someone do what they are passionate about and meant to do is just the coolest thing ever. Jordan is the fastest slowest person I have ever met, and I just love that about her!

7: Tatum was so specific with her dream senior photo. She wanted to be sitting on the door of her boyfriends red Mustang with the sun setting behind her. And while I can't control the weather, I can help pick locations that help the stars align. And the definitely aligned for her session! Karen the Mustang did an incredible job posing as well, lol!

8: When you choose to have your adventure session on the Oregon coast during summer, there is always a good chance that it will be foggy. Not for Chenoa! Not only was it amazingly sunny, but we had the lowest tide that I have ever seen at Pacific City-which allowed us to explore some areas that are normally under feet of water! I love this shot because it just captures Chenoa's natural beauty and she just looks ready to take on the world!

9: Thomas has quickly developed a love of beach volleyball and it was so much fun incorporating it into his session. This shot is just so fun! Any guesses on how many takes we did to capture it, lol? Let's just say more than one and less than 10!

10: There are moments when a photo just makes you stop and feel. This was one of those shots-I remember taking it at the end of Jayden's session, the sun had just set, casting a wonderful glow on Jayden. I love how the trees seem to have made an opening for her as she walks towards them. Not your typical grassy field with a white dress, in my opinion.

11: Twins just make things more fun! These sisters wanted a daisy field and we caught the last of the daisies for the season. We were just finishing their session, with the sun setting behind them when I asked them to run towards me. The joy just radiates from them!

12: It's always an honor to capture siblings of previous seniors. Mya is just as stunning as her sister! I don't know if the sun flare makes Mya's smile light up more, or if it's Mya's smile that makes the sun flare look better. There was no shortage of laughter in Mya's session, but don't let that fool you-Mya rocked the fierce look as well!

13: Christian loves mountain biking and while we were capturing all kinds of cool tricks, he paused and I just loved how in his element he looked.

14: Nicole had a lot of images that I could have chose! She just radiates joy! But this image with her dogs won out because I can feel the love in it. Latourell Falls is always breathtaking, and Nicole is too!

15: When I first met Olivia on our Zoom consult, I was beyond excited for her session. Her and I share a love of all things vintage and we curated the coolest session in some amazing vintage stores and coffee shops. Her outfits were perfection, most being thrifted themselves. Olivia just has an ease about her that made the entire day effortless and this photo captures that perfectly!

When I shoot over 30,000 senior photos during senior season, narrowing it down to 15 just seems impossible. This season of seniors really brought their A game and I was beyond honored to capture them!

Oregon Coast Senior Adventure Session | Pacific City, Oregon | Lindsay Newton Photography https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2022/9/oregon-coast-senior-adventure-session The Perfect Summer Beach Senior Session

High school senior girl portraits on the Oregon Coast

When one of my seniors wants to do a session at the beach during the summer I always warn them that we could actually have fog, not sun. Because when the weather is warm in the Willamette Valley, it pulls the fog in at the coast, which means you can go from 90 degrees to 50 degrees in an hour! Fog is pretty awesome to shoot in, but nothing compares to the amazing sunsets at the beach...if we are lucky enough to have one! My favorite time for sessions on the Oregon Coast is September, October and January. Which is perfect since we are headed into the fall months!

And wow-was Chenoa lucky!! The weather was perfect! And not only was the weather amazing, but it was also a negative King Tide!! We were able to walk to some locations that are totally under water normally, and it just made her session even more magical.

Adventure sessions are, imo, truly the best! You not only get a super unique and gorgeous location, but you also have more time to explore, which means more outfits too.

Are you ready to book your session? Click HERE to inquire today!

The Pros Of Having Your Senior Portraits Taken With Your Twin | Salem, Oregon https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2022/8/twin-senior-portraits Julia & Sidney

High School Senior Twin Girl Photos in Salem, OregonJulia & Sidney
Are you on the fence about sharing a senior session with your twin? Here are three reasons why I think it is totally worth it to book them together:

  1. You have a built in hype person! Who knows you better than your twin, right? Even if you are not the type that are inseparable, having your twin there just adds a level of familiarity and can help ease those nerves.
  2. It can save money! Now, don't get me wrong...I am absolutely down to do separate sessions, but is it necessary? Nope! You will each have your own time (and I keep it fair by setting timers) so not only will you have professional photos together, but you will also have your own galleries.
  3. From the parents perspective, you only have to schedule one session...as we all know how hard it can be to coordinate schedules, this one is huge in my book!

Julia and Sidney were my first Class of 2023 seniors and wow! They set the bar high!! I loved that we captured their unique personalities while still honoring their sisterhood. It was a gorgeous evening in the Willamette Valley, one of those magical summer nights filled with creamy light, a warm breeze and lots of gorgeous flowers.

Congratulations Class of 2022 Oregon Seniors! | Lindsay Newton Photography https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2022/6/congratulations-class-of-2022-oregon-seniors Congratulations Class of 2022!!

Your senior year was the closest thing to "normal" that you have experienced since your Freshman year! And while it wasn't totally normal, Covid is still a thing and created obstacles still, it did allow for some of the wonderful normalness to happen...football games, prom, in person class. Each year my seniors seem to have a "theme" and this year? Unique!! Each one definitely created a session that showcased their personality and was full of laughter and great times!

One thing that really stands out is that my seniors are having their photos taken for more reasons than just the yearbook photo. They want an experience that will last a lifetime-and that is exactly what we did! We adventured, we got wet, we played in the snow, we danced in fields and we had a blast doing it! When you toss the rules of when you can have your senior photos taken, it opens up so many amazing experiences that previous seniors could not have taken advantage of. And I am here for it! You do you!!

Never bend your head. Always hold it high. Look the world right in the eye. – Helen Keller

I am currently booking Class of 2023!! Is this you? Head over to my inquiry form and let's adventure!

Don't Make These 5 Senior Photo Mistakes! | Lindsay Newton Photography https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2022/4/dont-make-these-5-senior-photo-mistakes The 5 Most Common Mistakes Seniors Make When Planning their Senior Photos

high school senior sitting in the grass with trees behind her. Lindsay Newton Photography-245

First let’s talk about what makes an excellent senior photo…amazing outfits, personality in your photos that shows the real you, the perfect location, weather and of course an epic photographer! Good news-I know a photographer (lol-it’s me!!!!) who not only makes sure you avoid these mistakes, but sets you up for an amazing experience. Already sold and don’t need to read further? Sweet-Click HERE to reach out! Still curious what the 5 most common mistakes seniors make are? Here you go:

  1. Not hiring a professional photographer

  2. Getting a haircut too close to your session date

  3. Not capturing your personality and having your session too posed

Not hiring a professional photographer

When you hire a professional, you are getting way more than an expensive camera. You want someone who has dealt with different lighting scenarios; can pull you out of your shell, allowing your personality to shine; someone who can help you prepare for your session, ensuring that you have a great location and outfits to match; and someone who is just awesome to be around. So the phrase “you get what you pay for” is pretty spot on!

Getting a haircut too close to your session date

To cut or not to cut…your hair that is. While I am totally a fan of a good clean cut, it’s important to make sure you get that trim with the right timing. For guys, I recommend you get a cut about a week or two out from your session date. For ladies, I recommend about two to three weeks from your session date. And for the love-do not do anything wacky right before your session, like deciding to cut those bangs that you have never really wanted.

Not capturing your personality and having your session too posed

Being too timid to let that light shine through! Okay, so this one is a two-fer! Who you choose for your photographer will directly impact the ease at which you will be able to relax, which in turn allows your true personality to take center stage. So choose wisely! And how your photographer poses…or doesn’t will have a direct impact on how stiff and natural you look in your photos. I like to use a lot of movement and prompts to get those genuine reactions. I mean, who actually has a “camera smile” that they like, right? The second part of this is trust! You have to be willing to trust your photographer and just let loose! Will you look silly in the moment? Yep! But will it be worth it? Abso-freaking-lutely!!!!!

Not spending enough time picking your outfits

Outfits-a quick do’s and don’ts. Choosing your outfits is probably the hardest part, in my opinion. But it doesn’t really need to be…as long as you start earlier rather than later and have a strategy in mind. Strategy? For your senior photos? Yep. Most of my seniors have between 4-6 outfits. I recommend choosing each outfit with a vibe in mind. For example, if you play a sport, love to skateboard, love hiking and also reading at your favorite coffee shop then I would recommend an outfit that directly ties to each of these. A sporty look with your jersey and/or sports equipment, a skater look complete with your board, a traditional PNW vibe and a cozy or summery look at your favorite coffee shop. And don’t worry, we go over outfits during your consultation so you will have plenty of time to get the looks right! Speaking of time, you will want to start planning your outfits at least a month out. And about a week out, start getting them ready; washed, ironed/wrinkle free, hanging together in the closet. Gather all of the accessories and either hang them with each outfit, or put them with your shoes under each outfit. This will make the day of your senior session so much easier!

Not preparing for your session and leaving everything until the last minute

Preparation is key, so don’t wait until the day before! “Success doesn’t just happen. It’s planned for.” ~Anonymous. Preparing for your senior photos should actually start halfway through your Junior year. You want to start searching for your photographer in the winter and have them secured by spring at the latest. Especially if there are certain components you want, such as certain flowers, fall colors, etc. Once you have signed that contract, let the planning begin! When you become a Lindsay Newton Photography senior, we will set up a consultation to plan your session and get those gears in your brain turning. This will set you up for success because we chat about all the things, so you won’t have to worry about a thing!

Summer Urban Senior Guy Session | Salem, Oregon | Lindsay Newton Photography https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2022/3/summer-urban-senior-guy-session Downtown Salem High School Senior Session

Cole's session took place on a warm evening in September. It was one of those sessions that was easy, effortless and so much fun! I love shooting senior sessions in downtown Salem, Oregon. There are just so many cool spots to shoot and you can really get so many different looks! And this gal loves variety!! But enough about me, let's get back to Cole.

Cole was such a laid back (my way of saying shy) guy and was so easy to work with. We started in this area that doesn't see a lot of traffic, which is perfect when you are getting used to the camera. And then we adventured to some other great spots and ended on top of a parking garage. He picked outfits that rocked with the locations and his personality.

I think my favorite part of his session was when he first showed me his little half smile, it was truly the cutest little smirk ever! Once I saw that smirk, I pretty did whatever I could to get him to do it again! Lol!

Are you wanting an urban location for your senior photos? Check out some of these other blogs for some inspo and let's chat!

How to Elevate Your Senior Photos With Your Outfits | Lindsay Newton Photography | Salem, Oregon https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2022/2/how-to-elevate-your-senior-photos How to elevate your senior session with your outfits

JaelynJaelyn

Jaelyn's outfits were the perfect vibes! I absolutely loved how unique they were and the accessories that she paired with them. Honestly, she took her shoot to the next level! Clothes are one of the best ways that we express our personality. So it's sort of a no brainer that your outfit choices for your senior photos should play a pivotal role in your session. Each outfit should speak to a part of your personality. And when you spend the time beforehand creating each look, I promise it is worth it and will make your photos truly magical!

Here are five ways to elevate your outfits for your senior photos:

  1. Make a Pinterest board for inspiration. Once you feel like you have nailed down at least four different looks, screenshot your favorite inspo photos to use when shopping or putting together your outfits.
  2. Don't forget accessories! Sunglasses, watches, jewelry, belts, hats...they all play a role in taking your photos to the next level.
  3. Determine the vibe of each outfit. This also helps me determine which location to pair with which outfit.
  4. Gather your outfits at least a week ahead of your session. Make sure everything is ironed, hanging in your closet and ready to go. Place your shoes under each outfit, so the day of you can grab everything all together.
  5. Don't be afraid of color! And don't be afraid of current trends. Sure, you want to make sure that these photos are timeless-but you also want to capture who you are right now...in the moment.

Jaelyn chose Willamette Mission State Park for her location because it has such variety in one location; fields, orchards, roads, and water-what more could you want? This particular park is gorgeous year round! And because it is just 15 minutes outside of Keizer, it is one of my favorite spots for senior photos. Check out my post about my Eight Favorite Locations Near Salem for other great locations.

Now booking, so head over to my seniors page and submit your inquiry form today!

15 Favorite Senior Images of 2021 | Oregon Senior Photographer https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2022/1/15-favorite-senior-images-of-2021-oregon-senior-photographer My Top 15 Senior Class of 2021 Photos

I'm not sure how each senior class gets better and better, but I am here for it! This senior season consisted of 33 spirited and unique seniors, with 11 of them choosing to adventure all over our amazing state of Oregon! Each year I pick my favorite images (not individual sessions) and wow, did I have a hard time choosing! In no particular order, here are my top 15 high school senior images of 2021. I am now booking Class of 2023 and cannot wait to work with you. Are ready to book your senior session? Sweet, let's do this! Click HERE to inquire today!

1: Madison's session was beyond fun! We warmed up to the camera behind the Elsinore Theatre in downtown Salem, Oregon and then headed to one of my favorite coffee shops, The Archive, which is where this shot was taken. I just especially love the ease of this photo, not too much of the background, the ease of her expression and the warmth of the light.

2:  If you know me at all, you know I have a love for retro and vintage stuff. Ben wanted unique and mentioned that a light store or thrift store might be cool to shoot in, I immediately got to work and found The Lounge Lizard in Portland, Oregon that was beyond perfect! A little tip anytime you are either shooting in a store, or having your photos taken, make sure that your photographer has contacted the store beforehand. The Lounge Lizard was delightful and beyond welcoming when I called them. I have a lot of favorites from Ben's session-but the majority come from the shoot at this store.

3: Jaelyn, you are a Queen!! This shot just makes me so damn happy! I love the carefree feeling and the light! So much fun!!

Lindsay Newton Photography-24

4:  Giselle's adventure session was a dream come true! We visited a secret garden at Belknap Hot Springs which was such a vibe in itself, but when you combine the location with Giselle in her stunning dress, it was simply magical. After playing in the garden for a while we visited one of my favorite meadows until the sun went down. Giselle is one of those people that just exudes peace and draws you in. And talk about a small world-her current house is where we lived when we had our boys! What are the odds?!!

Lindsay Newton Photography-168

5: I think this one just exudes peace, confidence and captures that true Oregon beauty. Holly's adventure session took us all over Portland, Oregon and we finished at this great location in the Columbia Gorge. One of the most common things I hear from my seniors is that they are awkward in front of the camera, and that they will need help drawing out their comfortableness and their true selves. Holly was no exception, but it was truly a joy to watch her confidence improve as the session unfolded.

Lindsay Newton Photography-249

6: I started squealing inside when Sophie and I were on her planning call. She mentioned that she likes to take photos too, with her vintage camera. And then when we chatted outfits-I was probably squealing on the outside too! I loved how this shot came together, the light was perfect, the outfit was perfect and as you can see, Sophie is stunning.

Lindsay Newton Photography-96

7: Sean has helped rebuild this Toyota FJ with his dad-it was their Pandemic project. When Sean first mentioned that he wanted some shots with his FJ, I was stoked. But I honestly thought he meant a newer one. When he rolled up in this beyond cool FJ, my jaw hit the floor. I knew we needed to create something where the focus was only on Sean and his FJ. I just love the simplicity of this shot.

Lindsay Newton Photography-175

8: Having your dogs involved in your session involves a lot of treats and chaos. Kaitlyn totally  embraced it and this shot just captures the joy of this moment in her life. And I also love the imperfectness of life.

Lindsay Newton Photography-145

9: Miranda made my advocacy dreams come true in her session! This babe wanted to incorporate her passion for Black Lives Matter and to also truly capture what is going on in the world during this time in her life. I love the editorial feel of this image-I think the black and white just adds that special touch, almost like you should see it in a newspaper.

  Lindsay Newton Photography-290

10: There are moments when as you are shooting someone in their passion zone where you just want to stop and take it in. I remember feeling that way when I captured Isaiah for his 8th grade graduation photoshoot and once again during this part of his senior photos. This guy was meant to be on a skateboard, period. He was so in his element and it was such a joy to watch him do his thing.

11: I could have picked oh, I don't know...maybe like 50 favorites from Kody's session! We met at Trillium Lake at 7am to hike in to the lake for sunrise. Unfortunately there were clouds that obscured Mount Hood, but the sun did peek out for a second-and in that second we created some serious magic! It was so cold that we had to be very careful which rocks to go out on as there was a layer of ice on them! I haven't ever had a senior take an unexpected plunge during their session, and I sure wasn't going to start with Kody's session!

12: The cool factor of this shot is off the charts! Black and white just make it even better in my opinion! Addisyn was so much fun to collaborate with when planning her session. Each of her outfits had such a distinct vibe, and I just love the contradiction in this photo...dressed to the nines, but no where to go!

13: Cole totally looks like a jeans model in this shot! Not every pose works for everyone, but this one definitely worked for Cole! Again, the simplicity of this shot allows you to be drawn in. Guys-you will never go wrong with a white t-shirt and jeans...never.

14: One of my requirements for an image making my favorite list is how it makes me feel. Ayiesha in this shot just creates tranquility. I am drawn to her beautiful expression as well as the stunning location. Nothing overt, just a subtly gorgeous image. In fact, I think that is a really great way to describe Ayiesha-nothing too overt, just subtly gorgeous...inside and out.

15: Maya's ability to trust and embrace my crazy ideas made for soooooo many amazing images! Maya made my minimalist dreams come true. We picked locations that were unusual, yet captivating and while she might have had her hands turn blue towards then end, I would say that it was worth it! This shot rounds out my favorites because of her uninhibited joy for the snow! It was also the first time I combined shooting in the snow with flash photography-and I in love.

When I shoot over 30,000 senior photos during senior season, narrowing it down to 15 just seems impossible. But life always has a way of proving that the impossible is possible, doesn't it? So I ask, which image is your favorite?

Fall Senior Session with a Love of Vintage | Salem, Oregon | Lindsay Newton Photography https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2021/12/vintage-fall-senior-session Vintage Fall Senior Session

Sophie Senior SessionSophie Senior Session

Sophie stole my heart from the moment we chatted over Zoom. Here is how she described her dream photo...an older, vintage look in a forest wearing a thrifted dress. Sophie loves to take photos on her vintage camera and wants to go into politics and environmental studies. And to top it off, she fosters kittens during the summer.

Scheduling your senior session in November in Oregon means that we have a plan A, a plan B, and lots of flexibility. Due to rain, we ended up going with Sophie's plan B and it was PERFECT! We started in downtown Salem, Oregon and then headed over to Minto Brown Island Park to catch the last of the sun and fall leaves. We were truly blessed with the creamiest golden hour ever!

Sophie's session was the perfect combo of natural beauty, fun outfits and the perfect fall day. Are you wanting to have your senior photos taken in the fall? Now is the time to schedule your session! Click HERE to submit your inquiry today.

Urban Senior Session with a Retro Vibe | Salem, Oregon | Lindsay Newton Photography https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2021/8/urban-senior-session-with-a-retro-vibe Make it Urban, But Make it Retro

Jasper reached out because I had captured a lot of his friends senior photos over the years. That is truly the best compliment ever! When Jasper and I met over Zoom to customize his session, he mentioned his love for basketball, XBox and friends. I asked him what the most EPIC senior photo he could imagine of himself was and his answer was "an old school basketball court, sort of vintage looking, with me in jeans and a jersey with cool shoes." Well, we definitely made that happen and honestly, those are some of my favorite shots! Jasper rocked his session and I was so in love with his outfits-several included his thrift store finds!

2021 High School Senior Photo Fashion Trends https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2021/8/back-to-school-fashion-and-current-pinterest-trends Back To School Fashion and Current Pinterest Trends for 2021 High School Seniors

Deciding on your outfits is hands down the most stressful part of your senior photos, IMHO. And chances are you are feeling a little stress about your outfits, because you ended up here! Don't worry, if we end up working together, we will go over outfits in depth so that you are completely prepared for your shoot. But before we dive into the trends, I want to remind you that your outfits should always be true to your personality! I love it when my seniors pick outfit vibes that connect with activities they love, their culture and all of the things that make them unique! Remembering who you are in this special time in your life is really what it is all about. With that being said, here are the latest fashion back to school fashion trends that I am loving and the current Pinterest trends:

Back to School Fashion Trends:

  1. Thrifting! I am IN LOVE with this trend and that so many youth are approaching fashion with a sustainable approach. And with the help of online vintage stores, it has become even easier to find the perfect fits.
  2. Leather jackets. I love my leather jacket and they just add an element of Bad A$$ to your session.
  3. Sporty looks. Pairing a cute sweatshirt with a pair of leggings and sneakers is not only super comfortable, but also very stylish! Pretty much a must have for school.
  4. Ankle booties and beanies. This combo works great to add interest to that simple outfit you picked. Accessories are always a great choice!
  5. Cardigans. Will these ever really go out of style, my guess is no way! Cute and comfortable is definitely my jam.

Pinterest Fashion Trends for 2021

  1. Distressed jeans. Boyfriend jeans, mom jeans, skinny jeans...yep, they all work!
  2. Welcome back 90's! The 90's were a confusing fashion time, lol! But definitely a fun one! Some of the trends I am seeing come back are the sweaters tucked into jeans, vests and plaids.
  3. 70's Style. This one is my favorite! And honestly, will it ever really go away? I sure hope not! Bring on those retro tee's and high waisted pants.
  4. College crewneck sweatshirts. I personally prefer hoodies, but do love that this trend is coming back around. It was super popular in the early 90's!
  5. Denim jackets. Always a classic!

Which fashion trend is your favorite? I tend to love the ones that span all time-those classic, sustainable looks. And I will always be a lover of layers!

Senior Portrait Location Tips for Photographers | Lindsay Newton Photography https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2021/4/senior-location-tips Tips For Choosing The Perfect Location For Your Senior Portrait Sessions

High School Senior PortraitLindsay Newton Photography-30 High School Senior PortraitLindsay Newton Photography-30 High School Senior PortraitLindsay Newton Photography-30

How do you pick locations for you senior sessions? I get this question a lot! I personally like to pair my seniors with a location that matches their personality or the vibe they want for their session. There are a couple of things I do to narrow down choices and then we look at two or three to decide which one speaks to them the most!

Here are my top five location tips:

  1. Get to know your seniors and the vibe they are wanting! My favorite question that I ask is "The sky is the limit, tell me what the most epic senior photo of yourself would be. Now describe it in detail!" More times than not, we either nail it or get pretty close. And it helps to understand their vision, so you can base additional questions around this. Ask them silly, quirky questions to get to know them, what kind of music do they like, favorite activity. I try to keep it pretty casual and not like a creepy interview, lol. Would you rather questions actually tell you a lot about somebody!
  2. Do your research! This generation of seniors are all about being unique! Which means that you can't rely on the same 3 locations that you are used to using. Make sure you have a good 𝟕-10 locations that are close by your area, but provide enough variety to give different looks and vibes as you explore that location. Need some inspiration? Check out my blog on my favorite local session locations HERE. But when in doubt, scout it out! I drive around a lot looking for new areas that will work.
  3. Keep notes on locations as you drive by them. I use my notes app, but you could always use Google docs. Whenever I drive by a place that I think could be fun, I capture the location and why it made the list. Also make a note of the time of year, in case it is season dependent.
  4. Ask other senior photographers where they shoot (some might not be forthcoming-but I am, so you can always ask me)! It never hurts to ask, right?
  5. Challenge yourself by trying out locations. Grab a senior that you have shot before (or a friend...but try to keep it in the age range) and do a shoot to try it out! This lets you narrow down the best times of day to shoot there and to dial in any other factors, allowing you to feel more confident.

A couple of other things to keep in mind when choosing a location:

  • Light! Light is key to photography, so know where that sun is setting. And when the best time of day is to shoot at that location.
  • Seasons play a role too! Want those fall leaves? Then look for locations with deciduous trees and then book during peak leaf season. And always have a rain plan! Sometimes that means an indoor studio during the winter months.
  • Make sure the location is safe and that you are practicing Leave No Trace principles. Ensuring your seniors are safe is key, I mean without it you won't be in business long, amiright? As tempting as it is to cross that "do not cross" rope, don't do it. Challenge yourself to get those "epic" shots for the Gram in a safer location. Also, do not go in areas that will damage or destroy the area. Not only will you ruin it for everyone, but we, as photographers, have a responsibility to do our part in keeping this Earth gorgeous.
  • Driving time between locations. This can directly impact your shooting time, so make sure that you account for it.
  • Always have a plan B. Even for locations that you shoot at consistently, have a back up. I can't tell you how many times I have showed up to a location to find it closed, a fire has started, a wedding is there, etc. When you already have a back up location, it is super easy to pivot.

Hopefully this helps you start finding those epic locations that will only enhance your senior sessions more! Need some inspo on posing? Check out my post on 11 Poses to Make Your Senior Photos Awesome!

Joshua's Stayton Eagle Football Senior Portraits | Stayton, Oregon https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2021/3/stayton-eagle-football-senior-portraits-stayton-oregon The Perfect Fall High School Football Senior Session

Black high school football player sitting in standsLindsay Newton Photography-6

I absolutely love it when I have the opportunity to capture siblings! Joshua's older brother graduated a couple of years ago, so when Joshua's mom reached out for me to capture Joshua-I was thrilled! Joshua is one of those guys that comes off as shy, but is not as hard to crack as his brother was, and we had lots of laughs during his session! Nothing about being a Class of 2021 senior is "normal" anymore-including the football season. They were set to play in the spring, which was good because Joshua was headed into surgery to repair his knee a week after our session. He will still miss the season, but will at least now be able to play a more active role on the recovery sidelines.

Having your session in late fall...okay, more like early winter can be nail biting, weather wise. We got super lucky and had a gorgeous day! We started at the Stayton High School on the football field and then headed over to their house for a slightly different look, ending with the sunset. For a guy that wasn't super stoked about having his photos taken, his outfits were perfect and his hair was amazing!

Top 9 Favorite Senior Photo Locations in Oregon https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2021/3/top-9-senior-photo-locations-in-oregon My Top 9 Favorite Adventure Locations for Senior Photos

High school senior girl standing in front of a Abiqua Falls in OregonLindsay Newton Photography-188

Are you looking for an epic location for your senior photos? Do you love adventuring? Then you are definitely in the right place! These top 9 locations are some of my all time favorite places that are all within 3 hours of Salem, Oregon. And some of them can actually be combined to make one epic day full of adventure!!!

What is involved in choosing a photo location:

1. Personality

Personality is key to picking the right location. If you love the big city, then going to a remote location in the woods might not be the best choice to showcase your personality. When you become a LNP senior, I personally help you pick the best location that will bring out all of your amazing parts that make you YOU!

2. Time

How much time you want to invest in driving to a location also helps narrow down what might be right for you. Luckily, if you are in Salem, Oregon, we can get to some pretty epic locations within just over an hour! I set aside the entire day for adventure sessions, so no matter where we go we will have so much time to enjoy, have fun and adventure!

3. Adventure Level

Not everyone is up for hiking 8 miles (although if you are-I have some truly stunning options), and I get that! Maybe you want to LOOK adventurous, but you don't want to go that far. I have tons of great places within 1/4 mile of the car. No worries about make-up sweating off, or having to carry your closet of clothes up a mountain. But maybe you DO WANT something that is so incredibly different than everyone else, and you are willing to work for it. I have a list of about 2,758,184,833 amazing locations in Oregon that I would LOVE to take you to!!! We can hike, camp, swim, climb...I get giddy just thinking of all the places!

4. What Elements You Want

One of the best ways to narrow down location options is to make a list of what different elements do you want? Do you love waterfalls? Or maybe the beach is calling your name? Dream big and write down everything that you would like involved and then when we have our Zoom call, I help you pick a location that fits as many of those as possible.

Here is a list to get you started:

  • Ocean
  • Trees
  • Waterfalls
  • Epic Views
  • Desert
  • Lakes
  • Mountain Views
  • Hot springs
  • Graffiti
  • City Skyline
  • Buildings

Ready to see the list? Let's do it!! Super excited, and ready to book your adventure? CLICK HERE to reach out!

1. Oregon Coast

The ocean is always a great choice! Oregon beaches are some of the most beautiful around...sand, waves, cliffs, sea grass. They all add that something special to your senior session. Cape Kiwanda is one of my favorite places on the Oregon Coast. Climbing the sand hill gives you so many unique places to have those epic landscape senior photos as well the perfect neutral backdrop for those close ups. Short Sands Beach is a great choice if you are wanting to incorporate a forest look and waterfall. It is the coolest little beach ever!

2. Downtown Portland

Portland offers such a variety of looks and is so popular for so many different vibes! Want graffiti? Check! Want a high-end fashion editorial look? Check! Want fun, bright shots filled with tons of personality? Check!! One of the things that I love about shooting in Portland, Oregon is that you can have a new look with each outfit and incorporate fun food and places.

3. Clear Lake and Sisters Area

Located about 2 hours away from Salem, Clear lake is the truly the clearest lake I have ever been on! It is the headwaters for the McKenzie river and is truly breathtaking! Although, that could be due to its frigid temperatures too. Lol! There are so many wonderful things about Clear Lake-they have super cute row boats, vine maples that make the edge of the lake look like they are on fire in the Autumn, cute cabins, and lots of forest. There are also waterfalls nearby and Sisters, Oregon is just a quick drive, so we can also incorporate the gorgeous Ponderosa pines and maybe even some ice cream or coffee!

4. Lost Lake

Lost lake is one of those places that you have to just take a moment and drink it in...just figuratively though. Mount Hood is at one end of the lake and if you go in the morning, you will be greeted with a gorgeous reflection on the lake. Definitely rent a canoe or row boat to snag some photos out on the lake! My favorite time to go is late summer and early fall as the leaves start to change.

5. Columbia Gorge Area

The Columbia Gorge Area has so many different places that are unique, filled with adventure! Waterfalls, desert, epic views, wildflowers, and even a mini stone hedge! All in one magical area! It's also close enough to Portland to combine both looks!

6. Sparks Lake

Sparks Lake is definitely one of my favorite Oregon lakes. Located just outside of Bend, Oregon it is only available after the highway opens, which is usually in June. Are you wanting epic mountain views? It doesn't get much better than south sister looming in the background. Pair that with a gorgeous lake and I guarantee you will fall in love too! My advice-definitely plan on a sunrise session!! I know-I hate getting up early too, but it is so worth it! The lake has a layer of fog that hangs over the glassy water with the reflection of the mountain as alpenglow hits. Plus, I'll bring coffee!

7. Smith Rock

If you want the best light, epic views, maybe some water or a giant monkey face in the background-I cannot recommend Smith Rock enough!! I know I have said this before-but this place is magical!! It is also known around the world as a favorite rock climbing destination (it is one of my favorite places to climb). Hiking is an option here, but not necessary. And if you are wanting to combine this with Clear Lake for a full day of adventure, we totally could!

8. Abiqua Falls

This little waterfall is located about an hour outside of Salem, Oregon and is not for the faint of heart to get to. The road definitely requires 4WD, but no worries-I never leave home without it (I have a 4Runner)! Once you get there, the hike isn't super hard-it's not easy either. There are ropes along the way to help you up and down and while you might be questioning your sanity by the time you reach the bottom, once you turn the last corner and see the waterfall, everything else melts away. We usually plan on making it a day of it so that you have time to reapply makeup that was sweated off, time to eat a picnic lunch, wade in the water and of course take a ton of photos. This spot is very popular in the summer, with crowds for most of the day, especially on weekends. The fall is my favorite time to go!

9. Silver Falls
Silver Falls is sort of the perfect place for that Pacific Northwest vibe! Forest, waterfalls and gorgeous light! What more could you ask for?! If you are up for a hike, we could hike the loop to incorporate lots of the waterfalls. But if you are wanting something a little easier with less mileage, definitely check out North Falls. I actually think it is one of the most photogenic waterfalls around. And with Silver Falls being just about 45 minutes from Salem, it is the perfect location to adventure close-by!

Senior Pictures in the Heart of Winter in Downtown Salem, Oregon https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2021/2/senior-pictures-in-winter Senior Photos in January? Yes, Please!!

My normal high school senior season usually lasts from July through November, but this year with COVID, the yearbook deadlines were extended and so was my season-and I am not mad about it! Scheduling a senior session in January can feel like a gamble; the weather can be down right miserable, you might not be able to wear the cute warm weather outfits that you were wanting, and winter light is different than that warm summer glow. High school senior photo at the Gray Lab in Salem, oregon Lindsay Newton Photography-46

BUT there are some serious benefits to waiting until winter, as long as you can still meet your yearbook deadlines:

  • You will look more like yourself because the date is closer to graduation! It can be shocking to see how much someone can change in 10 months.
  • By renting a studio, weather is no longer an issue! And if the weather cooperates, like it did with Honour's session, then you can play inside and outside! Helloooo cute outfits!
  • I am not in the thick of my senior season, so you most likely will get your images back before my deadline.
  • If you are really lucky, you might even get some snow!

Honour's session started at The Gray Lab, where we used the simple white walls as our backdrop to focus the attention on her. She brought the best outfits, her best friend Calie and her sweet personality! The Gray Lab is one of my favorite places to shoot because it is so clean and they had great furniture choices. We only had the studio for an hour, so we got to work while jammin' to some old school music.

After an hour of magic at the studio, we headed outside to take advantage of some great locations in Downtown Salem, Oregon. When we had Honour's consult, we talked about the high likelihood of rain, and planned accordingly with clear umbrellas and cute blankets and jackets. We were totally prepared for whatever the rain gods threw at us, and were pleasantly surprised by the warm sun. I love the urban look, and with the sun shining we headed to some of my favorite places. On our way we ran into Caesar the No Drama LlamaCaesar and his owner are often spotted downtown and are always down to have photos taken. What a cool addition to your senior session, right?!! And just to make sure that the fun factor was high, we ended the session with a good old fashioned puddle jump! We packed so much into this senior photo session and it was seriously so much fun-definitely one of my favorites!

15 Favorite Senior Images of 2020 | Oregon Senior Photography https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2020/12/15-favorite-seniors-2020 15 Favorite Senior Images of 2020

The high school class of 2021 blew my mind! I loved each and every one of their sessions, all 48 of them-their uniqueness, passion, dedication and ability to navigate this crazy time. Each year I pick my favorite images (again, not sessions) and this years seniors made it so dang hard to choose! In no particular order, here are my top 15 high school senior images of 2020. Are you part of the Class of 2022 and are ready to book your session? Sweet! I can't wait to capture your unique personality! Click HERE to inquire today!

1: Anna's session was pretty epic! We started down by the Willamette River with her cute dog, then made our way to some cool brick buildings, then headed to Basket Slough Wildlife Refuge where she won my heart over with her hair scarf, but this moment made me gasp! I did a really brief stint in ballet when I was a little girl, and can guarantee that my leaps looked nothing like this, lol! This shot literally took my breath away!

2:  One trend that I am all about is embracing imperfect moments. This shot of Kylie was the last one of her session. I absolutely love the joy on her face, and that she is out of focus, but her wheels are in focus. For me, this photo delivers so much emotion...more than a perfectly in focus shot ever could.

3: I love it anytime I get to capture a sibling of a previous senior! I had Joshua in front of my lens before during a family session, and I had my work cut out for me to get this kid to crack a smile (although he was easier to crack then his older brother, lol). What I love about this shot is the true laughter and smile! He was probably laughing at me and some dumb joke I said...but I'll take it!

4:  Reyna's adventure session was a dream come true! The hike down to Abiqua Falls is not for the faint of heart. It is a short hike, but don't let that fool you-ropes are involved and making sure you are wearing proper shoes is a must! We chatted about all of this and how to carry down her clothes during her consult, so she was totally prepared and rocked it! Reyna wanted her senior photos to be an experience she would never forget-and that is exactly what she got! Her best friend Izzy joined us and we hiked, played in the water, ate snacks and had the best day ever!

5: I could have picked several favorites from Ivy's session! Smoke bombs do not always play nice, you should see some of the ones where Ivy is crying because of the smoke! But her walking out of the smoke with this one was truly epic!! Shout out to her bestie, Mary for being the best smoke bomb handler ever!!! I can't wait to see what this fierce babe does, I know it will be something amazing!

6: Mary, who is mentioned above, stole my heart with her fierce love of vintage clothing and women's rights. I love the peacefulness of this photo! But also that is is combined with a little bit of quirkiness, which really speaks to her personality! So many amazing shots from her session!

7: I love it when my seniors bring their dogs! It is always a good time! But the connection between Kaia and Ollie was super special! And I can honestly say that I have never before captured a dog that LOVES having his photo taken as much as Ollie! It was amazing-he truly smiled and posed for the camera.

8: I love the colors and how natural Ivan is in this shot! Anytime my seniors want to go adventure in a new location, I'm down! Ivan wanted something different than the normal seniors in our area, so we went and checked out a neighboring town and found this cool caboose! And that smile?! It could light up a room!

9: Moana made my cultural dreams come true! This babe wanted to incorporate her Lakota Native culture and her Polynesian culture and I couldn't have been more in love with both of them! This shot stole my heart for a couple of reasons...she was such a bad A$$ and was sitting in this ice cold water for like ten minutes and didn't show it at all and also because it makes me feel like we are transported to a tropical location every time I look at this image!

10: Zoe's adventure session was solid dreams! One of the beauties about choosing an adventure session is we customize it to be amazing for you! Zoe wanted something so completely unique and magical-and Sparks Lake is just that! We added in a special component-camping, which allowed us to shoot in the evening, play around and then get up for an epic sunrise session!

11: This shot of Steven is one of my favorites from his session because it is just so him! Easy going, fun, natural! If you want to check out more from his session, click HERE

12: The cool factor of this shot is off the charts! Black and white just make it even better in my opinion! Meredith was stunning through her whole session, I had so much fun with her! Don't let this photo fool you-we laughed A TON!!

13: Elana wanted an adventure that was unique and incorporated forest as well as the beach. There is this amazing little beach on the Oregon Coast that checked off everything on her wishlist-as well as a bonus waterfall! I loved so many images from her session, but there is just something about the lighting and vulnerability in this photo that just draws me in. It reminds me of a perfume commercial!

14: Keelie wanted a combo adventure-the big city and mountains! Thank goodness we live in Oregon where we can get to both in a relatively short amount of time! We started her session in Portland, Oregon where we enjoyed all of the amazing graffiti art and then made our way to the Columbia Gorge for the sunset. It was a gorgeous night and this shot was one of the very last ones we took. It is one of my favorite shots because Keelie not only looks amazing, but also incredibly strong as she gazes out. It reminds me of how my seniors have weathered the 2020 Pandemic so well and with such grace!

15: I love the simplicity of this shot! Madelyn was my very last senior of 2020 and I cannot believe how lucky we got with the weather! I love how this photo draws me in, makes me wonder what she is thinking about.

Like I said at the beginning, only choosing 15 images was so incredibly difficult for me because I develop a relationship with each one of my seniors and I absolutely loved each one of their sessions!

I bet after seeing these, you can't wait to book your session! Am I right?!! Good news-my books are now open for the Class of 2022! Send me an inquiry now and let's adventure! Click HERE to inquire!

Steven's Senior Portrait Session | Lindsay Newton Photography | Salem, Oregon https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2020/12/steven Rockin' senior guy session!

Lindsay Newton Photography-274Lindsay Newton Photography-274

It's not everyday that you can impress a senior by saying you have been to a B.B. King concert. But Steven was different...he eats, breathes and lives music! In fact, his electric guitar's name was Lucille, named after B.B. King's guitar. I was so excited to capture him and his guitars! One of my favorite things ever is listening to people play the guitar and I found myself at times not shooting, but instead just listening to his raw musical talent. I had to keep reminding myself that he is paying me to take photos...not giving me a free concert! Lol!

We started his session in downtown Salem, Oregon. There are so many little nooks and crannies to shoot in that give that rustic urban feel. Which worked beautifully with the electric guitar and smoke bomb. Seriously such a cool vibe! After capturing that cool urban look, we headed to Minto Brown, a local nature park that has amazing places for that nature look. It was the perfect location for the second half of his senior session.

I loved seeing Zoe, Steven's girlfriend and one of my seniors, again! We did a cute little couples session and ended with Steven playing his acoustic guitar while the sunset changed into blue hour. It was magical and I think we all felt it. I will be forever grateful for that day!

How to plan your senior adventure session | Lindsay Newton Photography https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2020/8/AdventureSenior You're standing at the starting line of an unimaginable adventure!

High School senior with her dog at a mountain lakeLindsay Newton Photography-128

Senior year is the year that you start plotting your route on your map of life. Senior sessions are my favorite because they most fully capture who you are at this time in your life. What your values are and what you stand for. The fashion that you loved. The activities that you spend your time at. What captures your passion, they all play a role in your senior year adventure and you deserve to have them preserved so that you can magically be transported back to these amazing days!

The most popular time to have your senior photos is from August through October. Location and type of adventure will play a role in when you should schedule your session and they do involve a little more planning, so if you are a natural procrastinator, you might want to start early! CLICK HERE to check out my post on the best times of the year to schedule your senior photos.

How do you know if you want an adventure session or a local session?

Lindsay Newton Photography-82Lindsay Newton Photography-82 Lindsay Newton Photography-47Lindsay Newton Photography-47 Lindsay Newton Photography-61Lindsay Newton Photography-61

Great question! My local sessions are restricted to within 30 miles of Salem and usually last 2 hours. You can check out some of my favorite local locations HERE, and don't get me wrong-picking the local session is great! BUT adventure sessions give you the flexibility to add more awesomeness! The whole day is dedicated to you! Location options are endless!! We get to incorporate more details to really enhance your photos. And the best part??? I can almost guarantee no one else will have the same location or as awesome of a yearbook photo as you do!

So what is involved in planning a senior adventure session?

Lindsay Newton Photography-37Lindsay Newton Photography-37 Lindsay Newton Photography-31Lindsay Newton Photography-31 Lindsay Newton Photography-48Lindsay Newton Photography-48

Your consult is the best place to really get to know each other and customize your session. Here are some things that we work together on:

  • Picking a location: This really helps steer the vibe of the whole session. Adventure sessions can be anything from spending a day in the big city to hiking an amazing trail to a meadow filled with wildflowers at the base of a mountain and anything in between!
  • Picking a vibe: We talk a lot about what is important to you and what you want your session to be. This is pretty much the skies the limit-it can be whatever your heart desires! And don't forget that your shoot can have several different components to it. Maybe you're a retro lover at heart and want to incorporate some vinyl records. Or maybe you hiked a good portion of the Pacific Crest Trail, and so you want to incorporate your backpack? Maybe you play a sport or musical instrument. And oh, yeah-you love coffee and donuts! I help you focus in on a vibe for your session and make sure that we customize it and capture all of the things that make you unique!
  • Choosing your outfits: Your outfits really make or break your session, so it's important to put some thought into them! I love me some unique outfits, so give yourself time to go thrifting and shopping! We share ideas and photos of what you are looking for to ensure that have the exact look that you want.
  • Picking a date: The date sometimes ties to the location. If you are wanting that wildflower meadow that I mentioned, then you will need to make sure that you pick a time when they are in bloom! The good news-I know all of this and we talk about it. We make sure to plan your date with enough time to incorporate the weather that you want as well as the deadlines that sneak up on all of us super quickly! I always recommend inquiring in early spring of your Junior year-then all of the options are available to you!

Lindsay Newton Photography-21Lindsay Newton Photography-21 Lindsay Newton Photography-110Lindsay Newton Photography-110 Lindsay Newton Photography-33Lindsay Newton Photography-33

Your safety, comfort and fun are my top priorities. It's okay if you are not super experienced in the outdoors-I got you! At our consult, we pick a location that is perfect for you and talk about what is needed for that location...proper footwear, bug spray, potty supplies, etc. We discuss the trail and if needed download the map prior. I love to use GAIA app for my hiking trails! I usually pack a first-aid kit, flint, pocket knife, headlamp, emergency blanket, backpack stove, mugs, tea/coffee/cocoa, snacks for everyone, extra water or my purifier, blankets, and hand warmers or gloves for those cold weather shoots to ensure that we are good to go!

Where is your dream adventure location? Pop over to my INQUIRIES page, I can't wait to go adventuring with you!

Andi's Senior Portrait Session | Lindsay Newton Photography | Willamette Mission State Park, Oregon https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2020/8/andi-senior-session The perfect start to my senior season!

Andi is one of those people that you just click with right away; fun, caring, doesn't take herself too seriously and willing to try anything. We had so much fun on her shoot, adventuring all over one of the local parks near Keizer, Oregon. Not to mention it was the perfect summer day with that perfect summer light!!

I am a firm believer in the more the merrier and I really love it when seniors bring their friends and their fur babies-Andi brought both! The family photos had us all cracking up, although, after we snapped some family shots, her little brother was ready to get out of there. Class of 2020 Cap & Gown Mini Sessions | Lindsay Newton Photography https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2020/6/capandgownphotos Class of 2020-COVID has nothing on you!

The Class of 2020 has definitely had a year like no other. One way that I wanted to commemorate this special time in their lives is by providing mini sessions for them and their friends to celebrate in their cap and gowns! We had so much fun (minus the grass allergies) romping around with their friends and fur babies. My Class of 2020 seniors will always have a special place in my heart and I cannot wait to see the positive change that they bring to this world!

Young Love Springtime Photo Session | Lindsay Newton Photography | Salem, Oregon https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2020/4/younglove Peace, Love and Springtime Flowers

I was so honored to capture this couples special love and friendship. Eli and Summer have been dating for a while and I adored how much fun they have with each other. They wanted to celebrate the end of their senior year with a fun shoot in a field of flowers. This session quickly took on a 60's hippie vibe that I totally loved! One of my favorite parts was when they played tag around one of the oak trees! You can check out another one of my favorite young love session HERE or schedule your own by filling out my inquiry form HERE. Let's celebrate friendship, love and laughter together!

Adventure Family Photos on the Oregon Coast | Lindsay Newton Photography | Manzanita, Oregon https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2020/4/underwood A Family Photo Session Paired with Adventure

This session will hold a special place in my heart for a couple of reasons...one, it was the last session before COVID-19 hit our area and two, because the Underwood family is the epitome of cool. Alyssa entered one of my Instagram contests and won an adventure session, so we created a custom adventure on a special Oregon beach, complete with roasting hot dogs and marshmellows. It was a perfect day, with the sun warm enough to kiss the skin and just a slight breeze. We explored, played, laughed and just enjoyed. Thank you for such a beautiful day!

Are you ready to book your Family Adventure Session? Click HERE and lets get that party started!

Congratulations Class of 2020 Oregon Seniors! | Lindsay Newton Photography https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2020/4/2020Seniors Congratulations to the Class of 2020!

I always knew that the Class of 2020 would leave their mark-but this is not exactly what I had in mind. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would be writing my Congratulations post two months shy of graduations...almost to the day. Covid-19 has left a wound that every senior and their families will have to heal from. It will leave a scar, but I for one think scars are pretty awesome. They are a visual way to show your strength, literally and figuratively. Instead of listing all of the things that were taken due to this virus, I want to focus on the resiliency of this class. They have made an epic sacrifice in order to save lives and I will always have a special place in my heart for you all!

So even though your senior year didn't end the way you thought it would, remember that you are an inspiring class that persevered and I have no doubt that you will do great things in your life! Thank you again for choosing me to take your senior pictures-it was such an honor!

As you spread your wings, here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. While this is a super exciting time for you, the adults in your life will miss you! Call and text them at least once a week. Bump it up to twice a week for bonus points. And don't forget about those siblings, they are having a hard time with the transition too.
  2. It's okay to miss home and it will happen. That's normal. This would be a great time to do number 1. Just saying.
  3. Get an Instant Pot-these things are super easy to cook in and you can have meals for days!!! Pinterest has a ton of easy recipes; click HERE to follow my board.
  4. Expect to fail. Don't fear it-embrace it! It will be scary, but you will learn from it. Journaling is awesome and can help get those thoughts on paper and make it easier to find your path.
  5. Don't get a credit card. The companies will try real hard to entice you, and you will be super tempted. But just wait-trust me, you will either thank me or wish you had listened to me on this one.
  6. Make time for things that you love and try new things! Just make sure you balance it with those pesky responsibilities.
  7. Never stop being curious, adventurous and fun. Laugh-a lot, especially at yourself! Make mistakes, own them and learn from them.
  8. Don't be a stranger! Seriously, please stay in touch! You can shoot me a text or DM to say hi, grab a cup of coffee with me, schedule yearly photo sessions-whatever works best for you, but I want to know how you are and what you are up to!

Top 8 Favorite Senior Photo Locations Near Salem, Oregon https://lindsaynewtonphotography.com/blog/2020/2/8favoritelocations My Top 8 Favorite Local Spots for Senior Photos

Location plays a big role in your senior photos! It set's the stage, so to say, so picking a location can be hard. No worries, this is where I step in, I pair the perfect location with your personality! Want to know my secret? Okay-but don't tell anyone! I start with a cauldron and a crystal ball and ask for a lock of your hair...JUST JOKING!! I get to know you! When we meet for coffee I ask you all kinds of questions and it helps me offer up locations that will compliment your personality perfectly.

I promise, you will never get a set of locations from me and be asked to just choose one, or worse-I just choose for you! That just makes me cringe thinking of you not having a say in where you get to celebrate your senior year! But don't worry, that is not the case with me, we are in this together!!

But for those of you who might want to do a little research ahead of time, I have put together a list of some pretty cool spots. Almost every single one of these has areas that are not overused, ensuring that you will get unique shots! Because you are unique! Are you also wondering when the best time to have your senior photos is? CLICK HERE to check out my post all about when to have your senior photos! In no particular order-here are my top 8 favorite locations near Salem, Oregon.

And once you think you have a couple of spots that you could see your session at, let me know! CLICK HERE to book your senior session!

1. Downtown Salem

Downtown Salem has a lot more than you think! There are so many little areas and I am always finding more! One of my favorite things about shooting downtown is that we can incorporate fun favorites, like coffee and ice-cream, or donuts and record stores! It serves the seniors that long for the old building look as well as the ones that appreciate more modern spaces.

2. Homestead Road-Minto Brown

Homestead Road is on the backside of Minto Brown (my favorite place to go running) and gives some great options! Cool road? Check. Railroad tracks? Check! Trees and cool paths? Check and check! Maybe some water and fields? Yep-we can get to those too!
