Dreamy Engagement Session at Smith Rock State Park
I was so excited when Dylan reached out about surprising his fiancee Maisie with a photo shoot. I have known Dylan since he was in high school, in fact I took his senior photos years ago, so it was awesome hearing from him via text one night. I am probably biased, but I think the gift of photos is truly the most thoughtful and timeless gift someone can give. Dylan and Maisie are having a very small wedding-so small in fact that they are not hiring a photographer. But they both talked about having some kind of photos done. When we met for the consult, we had decided to stay local for the session as it fit in their budget better. As we were talking, I was noticing all of the little details of how close they sat, the way that they each looked at each other and the sparkle in their eyes. It was truly evident how in love they were and that they completed each other.
I like to ask my clients a "sky's the limit" type of question, something along the lines of what would make this the best session ever? Maisie immediately said "Smith Rock". And her face was beaming. This is where owning your own business really comes in handy. I could have smiled and made small talk about how yes, Smith Rock is gorgeous...but due to the travel it would be more expensive than the session that they chose. Instead, we talked about why Smith? And with their answers and knowing that they would not have formal photos at their wedding, driving to one of my favorite locations to do my all time favorite thing seemed like a no brainer. I immediately said, "Smith it is!"
The fact that I could give them the gift of extra time and travel as my wedding gift to them filled my heart with joy. Watching their faces light up at the thought of this amazing session was priceless. And let's talk about the actual session for a second...it was simply stunning!
Watching Dylan and Maisie interact was heartwarming. Love truly radiates from them! Each supported the other when it was needed, without any hesitation. Turns out that Dylan doesn't love heights, so walking onto a small pillar was not super awesome for him-Maisie helped him. And it turns out that Maisie wore a skirt that was bound and determined to try to trip her-Dylan helped her. We danced, laughed, snuggled, ran, snuggled some more and kissed until the sun went down. It was truly a magical evening and I am thrilled that I was able to share it with them. Cheers to an amazing future Dylan and Maisie!
