Sunrise Mountain Engagement Session at Sparks Lake
So you remember my Desert Gypsy blog post, right? Well, when we started planning the styled shoot for it, we thought why not camp at Sparks Lake and add on a sunrise engagement session and a couples session. If you have never been to Sparks Lake before, it is this super gorgeous lake in Oregon with the most amazing view of South Sister. It's located on the Cascade Lakes Highway, which is only open for a short period of time due to snow. I found one of the last pull-off spots on the gravel road to Sparks Lake that was just big enough for my Subaru Crosstrek and Rae and TJ's Jeep. I set up my backpack tent, had one of the best backpack dinners from Good to Go (I highly recommend the White Bean and Kale Stew) and waited for Rae and TJ to join.
It was sort of a crazy timeline-they arrived about 11pm and luckily had their rooftop tent on their Jeep, because it took them maybe a whopping 5 minutes to set up-in the dark even. We slept great that night-if you take out the part where the deer or elk were stomping around and the birds were making the most horrendous racket all night long (I am guessing some kind of loon or turkey). The alarm went off at 4am to get up and start getting ready for the sunrise session. Rae twisted her hair the night before so it would have some wave in it, which worked great! Maybe even a little too good. She then hung her head lamp from the visor and applied her make-up. TJ fed the pups and got ready and we were on our way!
The lake was breathtaking! And really cold out (poor Rae), but ironically the water wasn't bad at all! While the sun rose, highlighting the mountain and the breathtaking fog on the lake, I captured all of the most endearing sides of Rae and TJ's relationship. We finished the morning with french pressed coffee and protein bars and watched the Osprey dive into the lake for breakfast. It was nothing short of magical and I cannot wait to go back and shoot here again! Stay tuned for my blog about the couples session!
