When your senior has a love of all things vintage, you build a senior photo experience around it! Planning Olivia's senior photo session was so much fun! She has a love of sustainability, thrifting, plants and coffee shops, so of course we mapped out the best places to shoot in Salem, Oregon. We started in a cool looking hallway in the Reed Opera House to "warm up" to the camera. After that we checked out the Sun Bear Den, the cutest little plant store in downtown Salem. They were gracious enough to allow us to shoot in their shop! It's important to always ask permission when shooting in a business, and to make sure that you stay out of the way of their other customers. I have found that if you ask ahead of time, not only are businesses willing, but they seem truly honored!
From the plant store we went across the street the the French Unicorn. This vintage boutique is known for their art collections-and truly was such a joy to be able to capture Olivia there! Just down the street is Engelberg Antiks, Salem's largest vintage market and a cool thrift store that has little booths from different individuals. It is always fun to see how each "shop" is curated. We especially loved the vinyl section and some of the more 70's vibes.
Our second to last stop is at one of my favorite coffee shops, Archive Coffee & Bar. Not only is their coffee to die for (I even made Olivia a believer...she doesn't like coffee, but I insisted she try the Warm and Cozy and she loved it), but their aesthetic is so on point! After soaking up the good vibes, we finished with some outside shots at a favorite stairwell that went with Olivia's outfit perfectly! And then finished her session at one of my favorite optical illusion spots. It is a cool location where you feel like you are in traffic, but in reality you are safely out of the way.
