There are certain sessions that just hit you right in the heart, and Taylor’s high school senior session at Silver Falls State Park and around Silverton, Oregon, was one of them. Not only was the morning bathed in the most perfect golden light, but this session was extra special because Taylor’s mom, Heather, and I were best friends in high school. To be trusted with capturing this milestone for their family? Beyond special.
We started our adventure at North Falls, one of my favorite spots in Silver Falls State Park. The September air was crisp but warmed quickly as the sun climbed higher. Taylor, an avid fly fisherman, brought his rod, and I had him cast into the creek with the waterfall cascading behind him. There’s something so peaceful about watching a fly line dance over the water, and Taylor looked completely in his element. The way the morning light caught the mist from the falls? Absolute magic.
From there, we switched gears—literally!
Taylor is also a passionate mountain biker, so our next stop was his favorite trail. The fir trees created these dreamy beams of sunlight filtering through as he rode, making for some seriously epic action shots. I love incorporating elements that truly reflect a senior’s personality, and Taylor’s love for adventure and the outdoors shone through in every frame.
Next up, we headed into town to the Silverton pool, where Taylor spends countless hours both training for the Silverton High School swim team and working as a lifeguard. I’m all about getting the best shot, so naturally, I ended up in the water—anything for the perfect angle! The reflections, the movement, and the way Taylor’s confidence in the water translated into the images made this stop one of my favorites.
Our final location was a sentimental one. We met at a nearby park to photograph Taylor with his dad’s vintage car—a total beauty that’s been in their family since Taylor’s dad, Courtney, was in high school. There’s something about incorporating family history into a senior session that just elevates the whole experience, not to mention how incredibly cool this car was!
As I packed up my camera and said my goodbyes, I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude.
Getting to document this moment for Taylor and his family, especially with my connection to Heather, was such a full-circle experience. Senior sessions are about so much more than just photos—they’re about storytelling, legacy, and celebrating who these incredible young adults are becoming.
Taylor, you absolutely crushed your session! Wishing you all the best as you dive into your next adventure.
