My Top Tips for Stunning Senior Photos at Baskett Slough

Having your senior photos taken at Baskett Slough might be your dream location come true! Baskett Slough is located in the Willamette Valley, just outside of Salem, Oregon. It’s natural oak groves and grassy fields create the perfect backdrop for photos, but the real MVP is the view during golden hour. Pure Tuscany vibes! This wildlife refuge is a great location due to the minimal vibes-wide open spaces and neutral color palette.

I love that you can easily add the gravel road for a different look, or even pair this location with another, such as downtown Salem, or Minto Brown. Because Baskett Slough is a wildlife refuge, there are no dogs allowed. So if you want to have your dog join, we just meet at a dog friendly location first!

Baskett Slough is a popular location for senior photos! In fact, I photographed nine of my Class of 2025 seniors there last season! And we will most likely see other photographers taking photos at the same time-but don’t worry, there are lots of little areas that I like to use, so you still get those unique shots!

Here are some tips to make your Baskett Slough photos even better:

  • Plan your outfits! During our planning call we will chat about outfits. The beauty of Baskett Slough is that you can really do so many things with the space! Color looks beautiful, but so does a neutral wardrobe.
  • Bring props! Flowers are my favorite thing to add a little punch to your photos. But it is also a cool location to photograph you and your car! Or a musical instrument-so peaceful!
  • Have fun! Especially with the weather! During golden hour at the top of the hill can be pretty windy! Embrace it and have fun with it! Wind looks amazing in photos!
